Thomas R. Horton
Thomas Raymond Horton (born April 1822 in Fultonville , New York ; † July 26, 1894 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Thomas Raymond Horton was born in Fultonville, Montgomery County , approximately seven years after the end of the British-American War . He attended public schools. Then he studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice. In 1848 he was on the Fultonville Board of Trustees . He served as a clerk on the Montgomery County's Board of Supervisors for six years . He also served as a justice of the peace for eight years. Between 1841 and 1857 he published the Amsterdam Recorder and worked there as a publisher.
In the congressional elections of 1854 for the 34th Congress , Horton was elected for the opposition party in the 18th electoral district of New York in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Peter Rowe on March 4, 1855 . Since he on a run again in 1856 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1857 Congress of.
He then joined the Republican Party . As a delegate, he took part in the Republican National Convention in Chicago in 1860 . During the Civil War , he served as an adjutant in the 115th Regiment of the New York Volunteer Infantry between 1862 and 1864 . He then served as the editor and publisher of the Montgomery County Republican . He died on July 26, 1894 in Fultonville and was then buried in the Village Cemetery .
