Robert I (also Ruotbert ) († January 2 or 3, 917 ) was Bishop of Metz from 883 to 917 .

Life

Robert I came from a noble Alemannic family. He first went to the monastery of St. Gallen . There he belonged to the circle around Notker the Stammler .

In 883 he was probably at the instigation of Emperor Karl III. Bishop of Metz. It is unclear whether he also received the archbishop's pallium from the Pope. Charles III held an imperial assembly in Metz in 886 . In 888 he took part in an imperial assembly under Arnulf von Kärnten in Frankfurt am Main .
