Herbert Zielinski (born March 8, 1947 in Herne ) is a German medieval historian .
Herbert Zielinski received his doctorate in Gießen in October 1970 with Carlrichard Brühl on the Spoletine private documents of the 8th century. His habilitation also took place in Gießen in 1980/1981. There he became a private lecturer in 1981 and professor in 1990.

For the Codex diplomaticus Regni Siciliae he edited the documents of the Norman kings Tankred and Wilhelm III. and then worked for many years at the Gießen office of the Regesta Imperii , for which he published four parts of the volume 3 “The Regest of Regnum Italiae and the Burgundian Regna” from 1991 to 2013, the first section dedicated to the Carolingian era.
