Callitris endlicheri , German Red Schmuckzypresse called, is a conifer art from the kind of callitris ( Callitris ) in the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It isnative toeastern Australia .

description

Callitris endlicheri grows as an evergreen tree that can reach heights of up to 10 meters. The branches usually go upright, rarely straight from the trunk. The robust brown-gray bark is often deeply furrowed. The tree forms a pointed, conical crown .

The dark green to gray-green leaves are 2 to 4 millimeters long and keeled on the reverse side.

Callitris endlicheri is single sexed ( monoecious ). The male cones are in groups on the branches. With a diameter of up to 3 millimeters, they are egg-shaped to inverted-egg-shaped. The female cones standing individually or in small groups on the branches are egg-shaped to spherical with a diameter of 1.5 to 2.0 centimeters. Each cone consists of six thick cone scales and carries several seeds. Each scale has a tiny spike at its tip. The seeds are released shortly after ripening and the cones then fall from the branches. The dark brown seeds are up to 3 millimeters in size and have two or three wings.

Occurrence and endangerment

The natural range of Callitris endlicheri includes the Australian states of Queensland , New South Wales and Victoria . It stretches from the Blackdown Tableland in Queensland over the New South Wales plateaus to the Ovens River in Victoria.

Callitris endlicheri grows mainly on shallow, stony soils on hills and ridges, which have mainly formed on silicate rock . The species can be found from the coast to the arid regions of the interior.

Callitris endlicheri is classified as “not endangered” in the IUCN Red List . It is pointed out, however, that a new review of the hazard is necessary.

A danger exists through the entrained to Australia mane Hirsch ( Rusa timorensis ), by browsing interfere with the development of the seedlings. Because of this browsing damage, populations have already declined in some locations, as the Callitris endlicheri populations are rejuvenated from seeds after forest fires.

Systematics

The first description as Frenela endlicheri was in 1883 by Filippo Parlatore in Prodromus Systematis Naturalis Regni Vegetabilis , Volume 16 (2), page 449. Frederick Manson Bailey put this species in A Synopsis of the Queensland Flora , page 497 as Callitris endlicheri in the genus Callitris in 1883 .

use

The wood from Callitris endlicheri is only used economically to a limited extent. It is similar in its properties to the wood of Callitris glaucophylla , but is more prone to rot. The species produces an Australian sandarak .
