Charles Vincent Fornes (born January 22, 1844 in Williamsville , New York , † May 22, 1929 in Buffalo , New York) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1913 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Vincent Fornes was born about two years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War on a farm near Williamsville, Erie County . He attended public schools and graduated from Union Academy at Lockport in 1864 . In 1866 he moved to Buffalo, where he taught at a district school and then worked for three years as a principal at the Buffalo Public School . He worked as an office clerk for a wholesaler of woolen goods in Buffalo and later started a similar business himself. In 1877 he moved to New York City , where he was an importer and wholesaler of woolen goods. Between 1902 and 1907 he was President of the Board of Aldermen in New York City. He was a trustee and director of several banks and corporations . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1906 for the 60th Congress Fornes was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded William Randolph Hearst on March 4, 1907 . He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he refused to run again in 1912 , resigned from Congress after March 3, 1913 .

After his time in Congress, he went back to his previous business in New York City. In 1926 he retired from active business and returned to Buffalo. He died there on May 22, 1929 and was then buried in the United German and French Roman Catholic Cemetery in Pine Hill (Buffalo).
