Peter J. Borst

Peter J. Borst (born April 24, 1797 in Middleburgh , New York , † November 14, 1848 there ) was an American politician . Between 1829 and 1831 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Peter J. Borst was born and raised in Middleburgh, Schoharie County shortly before the end of the 18th century . During this time he attended community schools. Afterwards he managed his own property, which he called "The Hook". He held various local offices and was an officer of the Schoharie County Agricultural Society . Borst was also an officer in the New York National Guard and served on the staff of Governor William C. Bouck . Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction.

In the 1828 congressional elections for the 21st Congress , Borst was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the twelfth constituency of New York , where he succeeded John I. De Graff on March 4, 1829 . He retired from the after 3 March 1831 Congress of.

After his time at the Congress, he returned to his estate. In 1838 he was appointed by the Board of Supervisors of Schoharie County to the committee that oversaw the construction of the First County Almshouse . He died on November 14, 1848 in Middleburgh and was then buried in the family cemetery on his estate.
