Herman D. Gould

Herman Day Gould (born January 16, 1799 in Sharon , Connecticut , † January 26, 1852 in Delhi , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1849 and 1851 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herman Day Gould was born in Sharon just before the end of the 18th century. He pursued an academic career. Gould went about commercial business. Between 1839 and 1849 he was President of the Delhi National Bank . He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the 27th Congress in 1840 and in 1844 for the 29th Congress . Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the congressional election of 1848 for the 31st Congress , Gould was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Eliakim Sherrill on March 4, 1849 .
