John F. Collin

John Francis Collin (born April 30, 1802 in Hillsdale , New York , † September 16, 1889 there ) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1847 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Francis Collin was born and raised in Hillsdale in the early 19th century. During this time he attended community schools and the Lenox Academy in Massachusetts . After that he worked in agriculture. In 1834 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . He was the Town Supervisor of Hillsdale. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1844 for the 29th Congress he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded Zadock Pratt on March 4, 1845 . He retired from the after March 3, 1847 Congress of. As a congressman, he had presided over the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Navy .

After his time at the congress he was back in agriculture. He died on September 16, 1889 in Hillsdale and was buried there in Hillsdale Rural Cemetery .
