Jeremiah Russell (born January 26, 1786 in Saugerties , New York , † September 30, 1867 there ) was an American politician . Between 1843 and 1845 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jeremiah Russell was born and raised in Saugerties about two and a half years after the end of the Revolutionary War . During this time he received a modest education. Then he pursued commercial business as well as real estate and banking business. He served several terms as town supervisor . In 1842 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1842 congressional elections for the 28th Congress , Russell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Daniel D. Barnard on March 4, 1843 . In 1844 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1845 Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he went to banking. He died on September 30, 1867 in Saugerties and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery . At the time, the civil war had ended for about two years.
