Edward Swann
Edward Swann (born March 10, 1862 in Madison , Madison County , Florida , † September 19, 1945 in Sewall's Point , Florida) was an American lawyer and politician . In 1902 and 1903 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Edward Swann attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at Columbia College , now Columbia University , and his admission to the bar in 1886, he began to work in this profession in New York City . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .
After the death of MP Amos J. Cummings , Swann was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the by-election for the tenth seat in New York , where he took up his new mandate on November 4, 1902. Since he was no longer running in the regular congressional elections of 1902 , he was only able to end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1903 . In 1904 he applied unsuccessfully in the 13th constituency of his state to return to the US House of Representatives.
After his tenure in Congress, Edward Swann returned to practice as a lawyer in New York City. Between 1908 and 1916 he worked there as a judge. He was then from 1916 to 1922 as the successor to Charles A. Perkins District Attorney for New York County . There were several complaints about abuse of office and other alleged or actual irregularities. However, no legal action was taken against him. However, Swann has rarely been in New York since 1921. He left the office of the district attorney to his deputy and stayed mostly in Missouri or Florida. After the official end of his service in 1922, he withdrew into retirement. He died on September 19, 1945 at Sewall's Point.
