Factory welfare of the Zollverein
The work of caring Zollverein was a social institution of the Zollverein coal mine and was 1928. She most recently worked until 1965 in converted farm Schulte up of Hege .
At the Hegestraße near the settlement Theobald Street that of lies Fritz Schupp 1938 reform style remodeled and expanded farm, the former plant care. Before this renovation, the carers worked in a wooden barrack directly at shaft 1/2 from 1928, and from 1934 also near shaft 3/7/10 and in other rooms.
The task of the caretakers focused on the miners' wives. They were advised and supported in all matters of daily life: advice for mothers, lessons in health and baby care, cooking and sewing courses, high-altitude solar radiation ( rickets prophylaxis ), child care and spa stays for children, support with applications for allowance. There were also office hours in the building, but also house calls. Social events such as excursions, celebrations and holiday camps were also part of the program.
The trained welfare workers were employees of the colliery and something special in the world of work at the time: they reported directly to the director of the Zollverein colliery.
From the 1960s onwards, the large companies in the Ruhr area increasingly reduced their voluntary social benefits; Non-colliery charitable institutions took on these tasks. Recreation homes and kindergartens were closed or taken over by other providers. Works welfare continued to work at Zollverein until 1965.
