Memorial stone for the miners of the 1941 mine disaster on Zollverein 6/9

The grave of Carl Meyer , the former mayor (1891-1924) of the former mayor's office of Altenessen / Stoppenberg, is located in the cemetery, which was opened in 1918 .

There is also the memorial stone for the 29 miners who died on February 26, 1941 in a firedamp explosion on the Zollverein 6/9 mine , including French forced laborers. The inscription reads:

"Brother your hand - here my - our comrades - who died on February 26, 1941 - at Zollverein 6/9"

The simple stone shows miners shaking hands. It was the biggest mining accident at the nearby Zollverein colliery.

Since 1988 the stone of the republic has been located at the south exit of the cemetery . Originally set up in 1929 by the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold to commemorate three well-known politicians of the Weimar Republic , it was removed by the National Socialists shortly after they came to power . The boulder shows the heads of Finance Minister Matthias Erzberger ( German Center Party ) who was murdered in 1921, Foreign Minister Walter Rathenau ( DDP ) who was murdered in 1924 and the first Reich President Friedrich Ebert ( SPD ) who died in 1925 .
