Dortmannhof
The Dortmannhof is a listed farm in Essen-Katernberg .
As early as 1552, Dortmann was mentioned in a document as being treated by the Essen monastery with the married couple Heinrich and Grete Dortmann, who were sitting there at the time. The courtyard building, still largely in its original layout, dates from 1791 and - according to the inscription - was built by Johannes Fielippus Dortmann and Anna Maria Droste.
Similar to the Hegemannshof and the Ottekampshof , this farm was bought by the Zeche Zollverein , but then not built with workers' settlements, but rather leased as a farm.
The courtyard building was built as a Low German hall house with apartment and stables under one roof, in the living part with a central hall with the stairs to the upper floor. The framework is made up of strong and often storey-high beams, some of which are arranged in an X-shape or with inscriptions. The service wing on the east side dates from the 19th century.
