The Zollverein mine dumps are mine dumps in Essen-Stoppenberg and Gelsenkirchen , which were raised by the Zollverein colliery directly on the site or nearby. They are among the oldest dumps in the Ruhr area and are listed in the Route of Industrial Culture.

In 1847, Franz Haniel founded the mining trade union Zeche Zollverein. When the shaft work began in 1848, tailings were piled up in various places.

At the corner of Haldenstrasse and Gelsenkirchener Strasse, a pointed cone has emerged, the typical shape of the first generation pile. Due to the formation of the terrain, this dump is not accessible. It is called Halde Zollverein 1/2 and is relatively small with 3.8 hectares ( 51 ° 29 ′ 23.6 ″  N , 7 ° 2 ′ 52.5 ″  E ) .

Between shaft XII and the coking plant, material was poured in at a second point ( 51 ° 29 ', 4.4 "  N , 7 ° 2' 27.7"  E ) . The floor is raised but a few meters here, since the mountains only here temporarily stored were. The edge of the dump is partially bricked up. In this area, Ulrich Rückriem set up various sculptures made of 24 granite blocks in 1991, some on open ground (former sedimentation basin), some hidden in the birch forest. This dump is accessible from both the coking plant and the colliery and is also called a sculpture park because of the works of art .

At GelsenTrabPark is the last and, with 37 hectares, largest dump of the Zollverein colliery, called Halde Zollverein 4/11 ( 51 ° 30 ′ 31.8 ″  N , 7 ° 3 ′ 32.1 ″  E ) . It is already located on Gelsenkirchen territory on the site of the former Essen-Gelsenkirchen-Rotthausen airfield and is open to the public. Various organizers offer running meetings. In addition, the trotting track uses training tracks for the trotters there. From above you have a view of the Gelsenkirchen correctional facility, the Fatih Mosque , the Nienhausen Revierpark and, of course, the coal mine and the Zollverein coking plant .
