Jonas Frögren (born August 28, 1980 in Falun ) is a Swedish ice hockey defender who has been under contract with Leksands IF in the Svenska Hockeyligan since the 2014/15 season .
Career
Jonas Frögren was selected during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames in the eighth round as a total of 206th player, for whom he never played in his career. From 1998 to 2008 the defender was under contract with Färjestad BK in his Swedish homeland, where he won the Swedish championship twice in 2002 and 2006 . Only in the 1999/2000 season was the Swede loaned to the second division club Bofors IK .
On July 9, 2008, Frogren signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs . Due to the unresolved question of his player status, there were then disagreements between the Maple Leafs and the league.
Frögren's first goal in the NHL was on December 20, 2008 against the Pittsburgh Penguins . After he was still regularly on the ice for the Maple Leafs in the 2008/09 season , the Swede came in the following season only for their farm team , the Toronto Marlies , in the American Hockey League . For the 2010/11 season Frögren returned to his homeland to Färjestad BK, with whom he won the Swedish championship for the third time in his career at the end of the season.
In June 2012 Frögren was initially committed by HK Dinamo Minsk , for which he was active in the Continental Hockey League until October 2012 . Then Frögren was exchanged for Janne Niskala from Atlant Moskowskaja Oblast , as Dinamo wanted to strengthen the offensive power of the defense.
