Mika Tuomas Pyörälä (born July 13, 1981 in Oulu ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Kärpät Oulu in the Liiga since May 2018 .
Career
Mika Pyörälä began his career as an ice hockey player at Kärpät Oulu , for which he was already active in the youth field. In the 2000/01 season he made his debut in the SM-liiga , when he ran up in five games in the main round, as well as in nine playoff games for Kärpät. After winning the runner-up in the 2002/03 season , the attacker won two Finnish championships with his team in 2004 and 2005 . In addition, he achieved second place in the IIHF European Champions Cup with Kärpät in 2005 and 2006 . After Pyörälä became champions for the third time within four years with the team in 2007, he moved to Timrå IK in the Swedish Elitserien .
For the 2009/10 season Pyörälä was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League . For the Flyers he scored two goals and two assists in 36 games. He also played 35 games for their farm team Adirondack Phantoms in the American Hockey League , scoring eight goals and ten assists in 35 games. From the 2010/11 season he played for Frölunda HC in the Elitserien, before he was signed in June 2012 by Amur Khabarovsk from the Continental Hockey League .
In November 2012 he was fired from Amur and signed a few days later by Luleå HF before he returned to his hometown club in April 2013. He became Finnish champion with Kärpät in 2014 and 2015 and received the golden helmet as the best player of the season in the 2016/17 season. In April 2017 he moved to SC Bern in the National League A . The Finn returned to Kärpät Oulu for the 2018/19 season.
International
For Finland , Pyörälä took part in the 2007 , 2008 , 2009 and 2011 World Championships . At world championships he won bronze, silver and gold medals with Finland.
