Hallopark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hallopark is a park in the northern Essen district of Stoppenberg .

history

The beginning of the Hallopark lies in the vicinity of the early Gothic Kaiser Wilhelm Tower , inaugurated on June 10, 1899 , which was named after Wilhelm I and stood as a four-storey observation tower on the natural hill in the north of Essen, the Hallo. The 43 meter high tower housed a small museum with a weapons collection and memorabilia from Prussian-German history, which was relocated in 1920. The whereabouts of the inventory has been unknown since then. There was also a Halloturm march specially composed for the tower . There was a restaurant with an Art Nouveau hall nearby. The tower, which was built between 1897 and 1899, was badly damaged during World War II and was not rebuilt later.

On September 29, 1929, a monument that still exists today was inaugurated at the south entrance to the park. The boulder is called the Stone of the Republic and shows portraits of Matthias Erzberger , Friedrich Ebert and Walther Rathenau .

In the 1970s, the park was approximately 30 hectares as it is today. In 1971 the remains of the old Kaiser Wilhelm tower were blown up.

Today's character

The Hallopark offers old trees and the largest continuous lawn in the city of Essen, which has an area of around 33,000 square meters. These include some playgrounds and a pond from which the Schwarzbach rises. There is an airfield for model airplanes in the east of the Hello . Adjacent is the Am Hallo sports park , which opened in 2001 .
