Mandrake - The Root of Horror is an American horror film from 2010. The television film was directed by Director Tripp Reed .

Harry Vargas searches Colombia for his ancestor who was a conquistador and who owned a valuable dagger. For his expedition team he hires Sergeant McCall as well as the anthropologist and linguist Felicia and the archaeologist Lin for security . The local Santiago Zavala leads the group into the rainforest . They are monitored by Carla Manning in the camp using satellite positioning .
After a while, they discover an old cemetery with a special grave. When they open it, they recognize a skeletonized corpse with a dagger in its heart and an inscription containing an unnamed warning. Lin pulls out the dagger. It has a large ruby and is definitely from the 16th century. The group makes their way back to the camp, skeptical about the simplicity of the job. Suddenly Lin is pulled upside down into the tree by the root of a mandrake . In addition, the others are attacked by obscure figures, who are natives who have disguised themselves as root people. Several people are now attacked by roots. Lin is brought to her village by the natives. There he meets the tied up Dr. Emma Kirpatrick, the only survivor of a previous Vargas expedition.
Meanwhile, Vargas is looking for the expedition team to take the dagger. In the native village, Dr. Kirpatrick, like Lin later, was sacrificed in a ritual. She wraps and divides a huge number of roots. Then the natives storm the camp, razing it to the ground, killing everyone present and taking Carla hostage. To be safe, McCall, Felicia and Santiago have to find their way out of the rainforest. Carla escapes and meets Vargas. When the two meet the other three, a tree turns into a monster, to which Carla falls victim. They can escape Vargas but are caught by the natives. Felicia can partially understand their language. They say that to protect themselves from the conquistadors, their ancestors called on a protector in the form of a mandrake, who fed on the intruders' blood. But when the mandrake attacked them too, they made a talisman in the form of a dagger, which, when pushed into the heart of an intruder, makes the mandrake calm again. The three have this dagger in their possession.
To defeat the curse, McCall plunges the dagger into the heart of the found skeleton. But without any effect, because a mandrake attacks them again. The dagger must be thrust into the heart of a living intruder. In a final battle with the mandrake and the resurfaced Vargas, McCall kills Vargas with a stab in the heart. The curse is defeated.
