Charles Rogers (born April 30, 1800 in Northumberland , New York , † January 13, 1874 in Sandy Hill (now Hudson Falls ), New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1843 and 1845 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Rogers was born and raised in Northumberland, Saratoga County , in the early 19th century . He attended Granville Academy and graduated from Union College in Schenectady in 1818 . Rogers studied law . However, after obtaining his license to practice law, he did not practice extensively. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1833 and 1837 . His candidacy for the New York Senate was unsuccessful. Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party at the time.

In the congressional elections of 1842 for the 28th Congress he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th Congressional constituency of New York , where he succeeded Henry Bell Van Rensselaer on March 4, 1843 .
