Fred Richmond

Frederick William "Fred" Richmond (born November 15, 1923 in Boston , Massachusetts , † December 28, 2019 in New York City , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1982 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frederick William Richmond was about five years after the end of the First World War in Boston in Suffolk County born. He attended Mattapan Elementary School and then graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1940 . Then he went to Boston University , which he left again in 1945 with a Bachelor of Arts . Between 1943 and 1945 he served in the United States Navy . He then worked as a businessman. In 1958 he became Deputy Finance Chairman of the Democratic National Committee - a position he held until 1960. He held the post of Budget Director in the New York State Council on the Arts from 1965 to 1975 . During this time, he was from 1964 to 1970 New York City Human Rights Commissioner , then from 1970 to 1972 New York City Taxi and Limousine Commissioner and in the years 1973 and 1974, New York City Councilman . In 1964 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party in Atlantic City ( New Jersey ).

In the 1974 congressional election for the 94th Congress , Richmond was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th constituency of New York , where he succeeded John J. Rooney on January 4, 1975 . He was re-elected three times in a row, but stepped down from his seat during his last term on August 25, 1982.

He last lived in a Manhattan nursing home , where he died in late December 2019 at the age of 96.
