William Sidney Goodwin
William Sidney Goodwin (born 1833 , died 1916 ) was a British surveyor , frame maker, and landscape painter .
life and work
Goodwin came from the southern English port city of Southampton . As a member of an expedition of the Royal Engineers , he took part in the first survey of the Sinai from 1868-69 , later he also worked for the Ordnance Survey .
In addition, he devoted himself to landscape painting, both on his travels to the Middle East and in his home town of Hampshire , and he illustrated biblical and literary subjects. 1873-1877 he exhibited some works in the gallery of the Royal Society of British Artists in London, others from 1911-13 in the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. Today his works are widely scattered, with the Southampton City Art Gallery holding six of his paintings (inventory numbers 214-219).
