John R. Thurman

John Richardson Thurman (born October 6, 1814 in New York City , † July 24, 1854 in Chester Township , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1849 and 1851 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Richardson Thurman was born and raised in New York City during the British-American War . In 1835 he graduated from Columbia College . He then moved to Warren County and settled at Chestertown , where he worked in agriculture. In the following time he held several local offices. Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party .

In the congressional election of 1848 for the 31st Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 15th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Sidney Lawrence on March 4, 1849 . Since he on a run again in 1850 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1851 Congress of.

After his time at the Congress he devoted himself to the management of his property. On July 24, 1854, he died on Friends Lake in Chester Township and was buried in the family cemetery, but his remains were then reburied in Oakwood Cemetery in Tory , Rensselaer County .
