John J. Boylan

John Joseph Boylan (born September 20, 1878 in New York City , † October 5, 1938 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1923 and 1938 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Joseph Boylan attended public schools, Cathedral School , De La Salle Institute, and Manhattan College , all in New York City. He worked as a Postal Clerk and then went into real estate business. Between 1909 and 1913 he was a member of the New York State Assembly and between 1913 and 1922 he was a member of the New York Senate . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1922 congressional elections for the 68th Congress , Boylan was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 15th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Thomas Jefferson Ryan on March 4, 1923 . He was re-elected seven times in a row. In 1938 he declined to run again, but died before the end of his last term on October 5, 1938 in New York City. His body was interred in Calvary Cemetery in Long Island City .
