Samuel Chase (politician, 1789)

Samuel Chase (* 1789 in Cooperstown , New York ; † August 3, 1838 in Richfield , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1827 and 1829 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Chase was born and raised in Cooperstown about five years after the end of the War of Independence . He held various local offices. Chase was a Masters at the New York Court of Chancery . Between 1821 and 1829 he was a district attorney in Otsego County .

As a result of a fragmentation of the Democratic Republican Party before and during the presidency of John Quincy Adams (1825-1829), he joined the Adams faction . In the 1826 congressional elections , Chase was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded William G. Angel on March 4, 1827 . He retired from the after March 3, 1829 Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he went back to a legal activity. He died on August 3, 1838 in Richfield, Otsego County .
