Milton ( Gael . Baile Mhuilinn Anndra ), known as Milntown of Tarbat until the 1970s, is a small community in Easter Ross between Kildary and Barbaraville on Scotland's northeast coast.

history

Milton was a center for oatmeal and later flax fiber production , which was supplied by many surrounding farms during the heyday of Clan Ross . His market cross dates from the late 18th century. The mill was operated by a tributary of the Balnagown .

Milton now has a social housing district to the west and north of the original village, which was built on former farmland in the late 1970s .

Now under the listed original village, offers classic Scottish Vernacular - architecture , and a short distance away is Tarbat Estate , including Major General Lord MacLeod Georgian Tarbat House from the year 1778, a contemporary ruin. The view of the property from the top floor allowed for spectacular views of the Cromarty Firth .
