William R. Williams

William Robert Williams (born August 11, 1884 in Brookfield , Madison County , New York , †  May 9, 1972 in Cassville , New York) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1959 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1891 William Williams moved to Cassville with his parents. He attended the public schools in Bridgewater . He then worked as a salesman for the Standard Oil Company between 1907 and 1910 . He then worked in agriculture in Cassville. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1935 and 1943 he was a member of the New York State Assembly ; from 1943 to 1951 he served as sheriff in Oneida County .

In the 1950 congressional election , Williams was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 35th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Democrat John C. Davies on January 3, 1951 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four terms in Congress by January 3, 1959 . These were determined by the events of the Korean War and the Cold War . Since 1953 Williams represented the 34th district of his state as the successor to Clarence E. Kilburn .

In 1958 he renounced another congressional candidacy. From 1959 to 1961 he was district chairman of the Republicans in Oneida County. Otherwise he was back in agriculture in Cassville. He died there on May 9, 1972.
