Abner Lewis

Abner Lewis (born August 17, 1801 in Rutland County , Vermont , †  October 12, 1879 in Winona , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1847 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Abner Lewis attended public schools in his home country. He must also have studied law, as this is the prerequisite for the legal professions he will later practice. In the 1830s he joined the Whig Party , which was then founded . He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1838 and 1839 .

In the congressional election of 1844 , Lewis was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 31st  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Asher Tyler on March 4, 1845 . Until March 3, 1847, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War .

Between 1847 and 1852 Abner Lewis served as a district judge in Chautauqua County . He then practiced as a lawyer in Winona. He died there on October 11, 1879.
