Roy Walter Riehlman (born August 26, 1899 in Otisco , New York , † July 16, 1978 in Ormond Beach , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1947 and 1965 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Roy Walter Riehlman was born in Otisco at the end of the 19th century . He attended public schools in Tully, New York. He then graduated from Manlius Military Academy in 1919 and Central City Business School in Syracuse in 1921 . Between 1921 and 1923 he ran a general store and worked as a postmaster in Nedrow, New York. In 1923 he became the owner and operator of a bakery in Tully. He then sat on the Tully Board of Education between 1933 and 1938 and on the Onondaga County's Board of Supervisors between 1938 and 1943 . He then worked between 1943 and 1946 as a town clerk ( County Clerk ) in Onondaga County. He sat on the advisory board of Marine Midland Trust Co. in Tully and in the Area Board of Directors at Lynchburg College ( Virginia ).

Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In the 1946 congressional election , Riehlman was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 36th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Clarence E. Hancock on January 4, 1947 . He was re-elected twice in a row. He then ran successfully in 1952 in the 35th electoral district for a seat in Congress and took over from William R. Williams on January 4, 1953 . He was re-elected there four times in a row. In 1962 he was elected to the 34th constituency in the US House of Representatives, where he succeeded Alexander Pirnie on January 4, 1963 . On his tenth candidacy in 1964 he was defeated and withdrew from the after January 3, 1965 Congress of. Riehlman was Vice President of Lumar Enterprises, Inc. He moved to Ormond Beach, where he died on July 16, 1978. His body was then interred in Tully Cemetery in Tully.
