Jonathan Scoville
Jonathan Scoville (born July 14, 1830 in Salisbury , Litchfield County , Connecticut , † March 4, 1891 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1880 and 1883 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Jonathan Scoville attended various educational institutions in Massachusetts . This also included the scientific branch of Harvard University . In 1854 he worked in Canaan in iron making and mining. In 1860 he moved to Buffalo , where he founded a car forge. A year later he opened another in the Canadian Toronto . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .
After the resignation of MP Ray V. Pierce , Scoville was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due by-election for the 32nd seat of New York , where he took up his new mandate on November 12, 1880. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1883 . In 1882 Scoville waived another congressional candidacy. He was mayor of Buffalo in 1884 and 1885. He died on March 4, 1891 in New York City and was buried in Salisbury, his birthplace.
