Edwin Arthur Hall

Edwin Arthur Hall (born February 11, 1909 in Binghamton , New York , †  October 18, 2004 in Montrose , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1953 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edwin Hall was the great-grandson of Congressman John A. Collier (1787–1873). He attended public schools in his home country and then Cornell University in Ithaca . He later worked in construction and banking. He also worked in agriculture. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1935 he served on his party's Broome County board; In 1936 he took part as a delegate at the regional party convention of the Republicans for the state of New York. Between 1937 and 1939 he was a member of the Binghamton Parish Council.

After the death of MP Bert Lord Hall was elected at the by-election for the 34th seat of New York as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 7, 1939. After five re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1953 . Since 1945 he represented the 37th  electoral district of his state there. The Roosevelt government's last New Deal laws were passed by 1941 , which Hall's party was rather hostile to. Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of World War II . Hall also saw the beginning of the Cold War and Korean War as a Congressman.

In 1952 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In 1953 and 1954 he served on the staff of Richard Knauf, a member of the New York State Assembly ; from 1955 to 1956 he was employed by the New York State Civil Service Commission in Syracuse . He then worked for the New York State Soil Conservation Service until 1958 . Between 1962 and 1971 he served on various school boards in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. Edwin Hall died in Montrose on October 18, 2004.
