George F. Rogers

George Frederick Rogers (born March 19, 1887 in Ontario , Canada , †  November 20, 1948 in Cobourg , Canada) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1947 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Rogers attended public schools in his native Canada and in Rochester, New York State. From 1899 he lived in Rochester, where he was a grocer between 1911 and 1943. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1934 and 1935 he was a county councilor in Monroe County ; from 1937 to 1938 he sat in the New York Senate . Between 1942 and 1948 he was on the Genesee State Park Commission .

In the 1944 congressional election , Rogers was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 40th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Republican Walter G. Andrews on January 3, 1945 . Since he was not confirmed in 1946, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1947 . During this time the Second World War ended .

In 1948, George Rogers ran unsuccessfully to return to Congress. He died a little later on November 20 of that year in Cobourg and was buried in Rochester.
