John Marshall Rose

John Marshall Rose (born May 18, 1856 in Johnstown , Cambria County , Pennsylvania , †  April 22, 1923 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1923 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Rose attended the public schools in his home country. In 1880 he graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. He then taught as a teacher for some time. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1884, he began to work in this profession in Johnstown. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1889 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the 1916 congressional election , Rose was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 19th  constituency of Pennsylvania, where he succeeded Democrat Warren Worth Bailey on March 4, 1917 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1923 . During this time, the American entry into the First World War fell and in 1918 the end of this war. During his tenure in Congress, the 18th and 19th amendments were ratified.

In 1922, John Rose renounced another congressional candidacy. He died in Washington on April 22, 1923, just weeks after the end of his last term in Congress. Rose found his final resting place in his hometown of Johnstown.
