Warren Worth Bailey (born January 8, 1855 in New Winchester , Hendricks County , Indiana , †  November 9, 1928 in Johnstown , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1917 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1863, Warren Bailey moved with his parents to Edgar County , Illinois , where he attended public schools. He then worked in the telegraph service until 1875. Then he completed an apprenticeship in printing and began a long career in the newspaper business. In the following years he published newspapers in Carlisle (Indiana) and Chicago , among others . From 1893 he lived in Johnstown, where he published the Daily Democrat newspaper . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1906 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives; In 1912 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Baltimore , where Woodrow Wilson was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the 1912 congressional election , Bailey was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Jesse Lee Hartman on March 4, 1913 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1917 . From 1913 to 1915 he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage ; between 1915 and 1917 he chaired the Justice Department's spending review committee. In 1913 the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified.

In 1916, Bailey was not re-elected. Between 1920 and 1926 he ran unsuccessfully in all congressional elections to return to the US House of Representatives. Otherwise he continued to work in the newspaper industry. Warren Bailey died on November 9, 1928 in Johnstown, where he was also buried.
