John W. Kendall

John Wilkerson Kendall (born June 26, 1834 in Morgan County , Kentucky , †  March 7, 1892 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . In 1891 and 1892 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Kendall attended his home public schools and Owingsville Academy . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1854, he began to practice in West Liberty in this profession. Between 1854 and 1858, Kendall also served as the Morgan County prosecutor. During the Civil War he was a first lieutenant in a cavalry unit in the Confederation Army .

Politically, Kendall was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1867 and 1871 he was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives . He was then from 1872 to 1878 district attorney in the 13th judicial district of Kentucky. In the congressional elections of 1890 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the tenth constituency of his state, where he succeeded John Henry Wilson on March 4, 1891 . Kendall was only able to exercise his mandate for about a year. He died on March 7, 1892 as a congressman in the federal capital Washington and was buried in West Liberty. In a by-election, his mandate fell to his son Joseph .
