Eugene Siler (born June 26, 1900 in Williamsburg , Whitley County , Kentucky , †  December 5, 1987 in Louisville , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1955 and 1965 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Eugene Siler attended the public schools of his home country and then Cumberland College in Williamsburg until 1920 . He then studied until 1922 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington . After a subsequent law degree at Columbia University and his admission as a lawyer in 1923, he began to work in Williamsburg in this new profession. During the First World War he interrupted his training to take part in the war as a soldier in the US Navy . During the Second World War he was a captain in the Army . Between 1945 and 1949 he served as an appellate judge in Kentucky.

Politically, Siler joined the Republican Party . In 1951 he ran unsuccessfully for governor of Kentucky. he became a curator of Cumberland College and director of the Bank of Williamsburg . He was also head of Kingsport Grocery Co. Siler was also a preacher for the Baptist Church. In the 1954 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded James S. Golden on January 3, 1955 . Until the dissolution of his district on January 3, 1963, he represented its interests in Congress . In the 1962 elections , he was re-elected to the US House of Representatives in the fifth district of Kentucky as the successor to Brent Spence . There he completed a further legislative period until January 3, 1965. In terms of financial policy, Siler was considered conservative. He was also a supporter of the earlier isolation policy by campaigning against foreign missions by American forces. He was also an opponent of the Vietnam War .

In 1964, Eugene Siler renounced another candidacy. In 1968 he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the US Senate elections . Then he withdrew from politics. Eugene Siler died in Louisville on December 5, 1987.
