Andrew Harrison Ward (born January 3, 1815 in Cynthiana , Kentucky , †  April 16, 1904 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1866 and 1867 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Andrew Ward attended public schools in his home country and then Transylvania University in Lexington . He then worked for several years as an employee on a steamship on the Tombigbee River . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1844, he began to work in this profession in Cynthiana. In 1860 he was the legal representative of this place.

Politically, Ward became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1861 he ran unsuccessfully for election to the Kentucky House of Representatives . Between 1863 and 1865 he was a member of this parliamentary chamber. In 1864 he ran for the US House of Representatives without success. After the resignation of MP Green Clay Smith , Ward was elected as his successor to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , at the by-election due in the sixth constituency of Kentucky , where he took up his new mandate on December 3, 1866. Since he no longer ran in the regular congressional elections of 1866, he could only end the current legislative period until March 3, 1867.

After his tenure in Congress ended , Ward returned to practice as a lawyer. He later became President of the National Bank of Cynthiana . Andrew Ward died on April 16, 1904 in his hometown of Cynthiana.
