Brett Guthrie
Brett Guthrie (born February 18, 1964 in Florence , Alabama ) is an American politician . Since 2009 he has represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Brett Guthrie graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1987 . He was then an officer in the United States Army until 1990 , of which he was a reserve until 2002. After serving in the military, he studied at Yale University until 1997 . He then worked for the Bowling Green- based company Trace Die Cast Inc. , of which he became vice president.
Politically, Guthrie joined the Republican Party . He served in the Kentucky Senate from 1999 to 2008 . In the 2008 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Ron Lewis , who was no longer running, on January 3, 2009 . In his first legislative period he was a member of the Committee on Education and Labor and the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure . He was represented in three sub-committees on both committees. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Energy and Trade Committee and three sub-committees. After four re-elections so far in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, he can continue to exercise his office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
Brett Guthrie is married and lives privately in Bowling Green.
