Don C. Edwards

Don Calvin Edwards (born July 13, 1861 in Moulton , Appanoose County , Iowa , †  September 19, 1938 in London , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1911 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1869, Don Edwards moved to Erie , Kansas with his parents . He attended public schools in Iowa and Kansas and graduated from Campbell University in Holton . He then worked in Erie in the banking and insurance industry. In 1892 he moved to London, Kentucky, where he got into the lumber business. He also dealt with the manufacture of pens. He also became President of the National Bank of London . Between 1898 and 1904 he was also an employee of the Laurel County District Court .

Edwards was a member of the Republican Party . In 1908 he headed their regional party conference in Kentucky. In the congressional elections of 1904 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded W. Godfrey Hunter on March 4, 1905 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . From 1909 he was chairman of the Foreign Ministry's Expenditure Control Committee. In the elections of 1910 he was not confirmed.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Edwards returned to working in the lumber and banking business in London. In June 1912 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago , where President William Howard Taft was nominated for re-election. In 1918 he applied unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the congressional elections. He died in London on September 19, 1938.
