Alexander D. Orr

Alexander Dalrymple Orr (born November 6, 1761 in Alexandria , Colony of Virginia , † June 21, 1835 in Paris , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1792 and 1797 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alexander Orr was a nephew of William Grayson (1740–1790), who was US Senator for the state of Virginia between 1789 and 1790 . He attended the public schools in his home country. Around 1782 he moved to Bourbon County in what is now Kentucky, which was then still part of Virginia. He then moved to a plantation on the Ohio River near Maysville in Mason County , where he worked in agriculture. He also started a political career.

In 1790 he was elected to the Virginia House of Representatives. In 1792 he became a member of the State Senate . After Kentucky was founded, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, which was still in Philadelphia at the time, in the first constituency of the state . There he took up his new mandate on November 8, 1792. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1797 . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Alexander Orr withdrew from politics. In the following decades he returned to farming in Mason County and died on June 21, 1835 in Paris, where he was also buried.
