Henry Cornelius Burnett (born October 5, 1825 in Essex County , Virginia , †  October 1, 1866 in Hopkinsville , Kentucky ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives and during the Civil War as a Senator in the Confederate Congress .

Burnett was born in Virginia, but moved as a child with his parents to Kentucky, where he attended school and the rights studied. In 1847 he was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in Cadiz . He was later employed by the Trigg County District Court .

In 1854, Henry Burnett was elected to the US House of Representatives as a member of the First Electoral District of Kentucky. In this office he was confirmed three times before Congress expelled him from its ranks as a supporter of the secession of the southern states on December 3, 1861.

During the Civil War , Burnett later served as a colonel and commander of a Kentucky infantry regiment . As a politician he was a member of the Provisional Confederate Congress , and later as a senator to the first and second Confederate Congresses until the Confederation was defeated in May 1865.

After the war, Henry Burnett worked again as a lawyer; however, he died the following year and was buried in Cadiz.
