Harvey Samuel Irwin
Harvey Samuel Irwin (born December 10, 1844 in Highland County , Ohio , † September 3, 1916 in Vienna , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1903 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Harvey Irwin attended public schools in his home country including Greenfield High School and then began law school, which he interrupted because of the civil war. During this war he served as an officer in the Union Army . After the war he settled in Louisville, Kentucky. After completing his law degree, he began to work in his new profession. He also worked for the tax authorities. In 1895, Irwin became a Kentucky Railroad Commissioner. In 1899 he published the novel Helena .
Politically, Irwin was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1900 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Oscar Turner on March 4, 1901 . Since he was not confirmed in the elections of 1902, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1903 .
After serving in the US House of Representatives, Harvey Irwin returned to practice as a lawyer. From 1913 he was also a clergyman. In this capacity he worked in Vienna (Virginia). He died there on September 3, 1916. He was buried in Louisville.
