Edward Y. Parsons

Edward Young Parsons (born December 12, 1842 in Middletown , Jefferson County , Kentucky , †  July 8, 1876 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1876 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Parsons attended Louisville public schools and then St. Louis High School for a year . After returning to Kentucky, he studied at the University of Louisville until 1861 . For the next three years, Parsons worked as a teacher. After a subsequent law degree at Louisville Law School and his admission to the bar in 1865, he began to work in Louisville in this profession.

Politically, Parsons was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1874 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Elisha Standiford on March 4, 1875 . Parsons was unable to end his legislative term in Congress, which actually ran until March 3, 1877 , because he died on July 8, 1876. The politician, who was married to Mary Belknap, was buried in Louisville. His mandate fell to Henry Watterson after a by-election .
