Harold Dallas "Hal" Rogers (born December 31, 1937 in Barrier , Wayne County , Kentucky ) is an American politician . Since 1981 he has represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Hal Rogers first attended Wayne County High School . He then studied until 1957 at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green . This was followed by further studies at the University of Kentucky in Lexington until 1962 . In the meantime he was also a member of the Kentucky National Guard. After studying law at the University of Kentucky and being admitted to the bar in 1964, he began working in this profession. Between 1969 and 1980, Rogers was a prosecutor in Pulaski County and Rockcastle Counties .

Rogers became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1976 and 2008 he participated as a delegate at all Republican National Conventions . In the 1980 congressional election , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Tim Lee Carter on January 3, 1981 . After he was confirmed in all subsequent elections, including those in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest term in Congress runs until January 3, 2019. Rogers is or was chairman of the grants committee and a member of six congressional caucuses . During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell .

Hal Rogers is a second marriage. He has three children from his first marriage to Shirley Rogers, who died in 1995.
