Addison White

Addison White (born May 1, 1824 in Abingdon , Washington County , Virginia , †  February 4, 1909 in Huntsville , Alabama ) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Addison White was a cousin of Congressman John White (1802-1845), who between 1835 and 1845 represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives and who had been its speaker since 1841 . White received a good education. Until 1844 he studied at Princeton College . Afterwards he worked in agriculture and especially in cotton cultivation.

Politically, White became a member of the Whig Party . In the congressional election of 1850 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Daniel Breck on March 4, 1851 . Until March 3, 1853 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the discussions about the question of slavery in the run-up to the civil war .

White was a soldier in the Confederation Army during the Civil War . After the war, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama, where he returned to farming. Politically, he no longer held any other important office. Addison White died on February 4, 1909 in Huntsville and was buried there.
