John Yarmuth
John Yarmuth (born November 4, 1947 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American politician . Since January 2007 he has represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Yarmuth attended Atherton High School until 1965 . He then studied at Yale University until 1969 . This was followed by a law degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC until 1972 . From 1971 to 1975, Yarmuth was on the staff of US Senator Marlow Cook . He then worked as a journalist. He was both a newspaper editor and a television journalist. He also worked in public relations for the University of Louisville .
Politically, Yarmuth initially joined the Republican Party . In 1985 he then switched to the Democratic Party . In the 2006 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the third constituency of Kentucky, where he succeeded Republican Anne Northup , whom he defeated in the election, on January 3, 2007 . After five re-elections between 2008 and 2016 inclusive, he can continue to exercise his office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018. In previous terms he was a member of the Committee on Ways and Means and two of its sub-committees. He later sat on the Budget Committee , the Ethics Committee, and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, as well as two sub-committees. John Yarmuth has a grown son with his wife. In his private life he lives in Louisville.
