Evan Evans Settle (born December 1, 1848 in Frankfort , Kentucky , †  November 16, 1899 in Owenton , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Evan Settle attended his home public schools and then Louisville High School . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1870, he began to work in Owenton in this profession. Between 1878 and 1887 he was multiple prosecutor in the local Owen County . Politically, Settle joined the Democratic Party . Between 1887 and 1890 he was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives . In June 1888 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis , where President Grover Cleveland was nominated for a second term.

In the congressional election of 1896 , Settle was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded William C. Owens on March 4, 1897 . After re-election in 1898, he could remain in Congress until his death on November 16, 1899 . During this time the Spanish-American War fell .
