Edward Rumsey

Edward Rumsey (born November 5, 1796 in Botetourt County , Virginia , †  April 6, 1868 in Greenville , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1839 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

As a child, Edward Rumsey came with his parents to Christian County in Kentucky, where he attended schools in Hopkinsville . He then moved to Greenville. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work there in his profession. He also held a number of local offices. In 1822 he was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives.

Rumsey became a member of the Whig Party in the 1830s . In the congressional elections of 1836 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Albert Gallatin Hawes on March 4, 1837 . Until March 3, 1839 he was able to spend a legislative period in Congress . During this time, his only two children died of scarlet fever . This loss was one of the reasons why he no longer ran for office in 1838.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Rumsey practiced again as a lawyer. He died on April 6, 1868. Edward Rumsey had been married to Jane Merrihew Wing since January 5, 1832. The two children mentioned came from this marriage.
