Isaac Herschel Goodnight (born January 31, 1849 in Scottsville , Allen County , Kentucky , †  July 24, 1901 in Franklin , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1895 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Isaac Goodnight attended public schools in his home country. In 1870 he moved to Franklin. He then studied until 1872 at Cumberland University in Lebanon ( Tennessee ). After a subsequent law degree at this university and his admission as a lawyer in 1873, he began to work in Franklin in his new profession. Politically, Goodnight was a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1877 and 1878 . In 1891 he chaired the regional Democratic Party convention in Louisville .

In the congressional election of 1888 , Goodnight was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded W. Godfrey Hunter of the Republican Party on March 4, 1889 , whom he defeated in the elections would have. After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1895 . In 1894, Goodnight declined to run again. His mandate fell back to Godfrey Hunter. From 1897 until his death on July 24, 1901, Isaac Goodnight served as a judge in the Seventh District Judge in Kentucky.
