June Ward Gayle

June Ward Gayle (born February 22, 1865 in New Liberty , Owen County , Kentucky , †  August 5, 1942 in Owenton , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1900 and 1901 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

June Gayle attended Concord College and Georgetown College . He then worked as the deputy sheriff in his home country. He later became sheriff in Owen County between 1892 and 1896. Politically, Gayle joined the Democratic Party , whose state board he was a member in Kentucky. In 1899 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of State Auditor . In the meantime he was also active in banking and in the tobacco business.

After the death of MP Evan E. Settle , Gayle was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on January 15, 1900. By March 3, 1901, he ended the current term of his predecessor in Congress . After he left the US House of Representatives, Evans withdrew from politics. In the following years he returned to his previous business activities. He died on August 5, 1942 in Owenton and was buried in his birthplace, New Liberty.
