Addison James
Addison Davis James (born February 27, 1850 in Morgantown , Butler County , Kentucky , † June 10, 1947 in Penrod , Kentucky) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1909 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Addison James attended the public schools in his home country. He then studied medicine at the University of Louisville until 1873 . He was also professionally active in this area. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . In 1890 he was a member of a convention to revise the Kentucky Constitution. Between 1891 and 1893 he was an MP in the Kentucky House of Representatives . He represented his home state at the Chicago World's Fair in 1892 and 1893. In 1895, James was a member of the Kentucky Senate . He was then US Marshal for his state between 1897 and 1905 .
In the 1906 congressional election , James was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Democrat James M. Richardson on March 4, 1907 . Since he lost to Robert Y. Thomas in the following elections , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1909 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, James returned to working as a medical professional. He died in Penrod on June 10, 1947 at the age of 97. His grandson, John A. Whitaker , also became a member of Congress.
